Y’all, I could not be more excited to introduce this little miracle. Meet Harper Rae Chin, also simply known as, “Baby Chin.”
When I say miracle baby, I mean MIRACLE baby. Let me tell you why:
On October 21st, 2012 her parents, Patrick & Kimberly were married. After about a month of marriage bliss they got pregnant with the lil peanut you see here, Harper. It wasn’t until February that they found out & as you can imagine they were totally taken by surprise. Who can blame them?! They most definitely wanted to be parents one day, but this wasn’t exactly what they had planned - being newlyweds & all with a lot of exciting hopes & dreams for their early 20′s! But God always has a plan far greater than we do. Patrick & Kimberly are strong believers in the sovereignty of Jesus & clung firmly to that as they started to get acquainted with the thought of their new future as parents. Along with that firm belief came genuine excitement & joy & trust! But still, how could God’s timing have been so far from their own?
Fast forward 2 months. It’s now April, Patrick has been at his new job for a week when they get the news: This brand new father to be has testicular cancer; Infertility is one of the most common side effects of this type of cancer.
Without going into the details, lets just say the chances of this couple getting pregnant at the time they did in theory should have been ZERO percent. If this pregnancy doesn’t have God written all over it, I don’t know what does. Guys, God’s timing is perfect, always. In Ecclesiastes 3 Solomon talks about God’s timing & says, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”
On September 26th, 2013 – about a week after Patricks last round of chemo & after 48 hours of labor, Harper Rae Chin was brought into this world “8 lbs & 6 oz of cuteness and perfection.” said Patrick in his announcement to friends, followed by “I am both terrifies and overjoyed to begin this new gift of parenthood with her. God has been so good to our family. Jehovah Jireh.” Jehovah Jireh means the Lord who provides. What a beautiful gift; a beautiful 8 lbs & 6 oz miracle!!
Sure, a side effect is possible infertility, but God is so much greater than cancer, He is greater than the odds, He holds the universe in the palm of His hand for goodness sakes! I for one believe that God has made his presence more than known in this sweet families life, he has shown that he loves them & cares so deeply about the desires of their heart & he is not done with them yet.
The last thing I want to share is a lil excerpt from Patrick’s instagram on the day of their 1 year anniversary because I truly believe it summarizes not only the roller coaster they’ve been on, but how faith in God can truly turn challenges into perfect gifts used to make you stronger & more in love than ever (beware, its a tear jearker..):
“Today Kimberly and I celebrate one crazy year of marriage together. Words can’t describe how much I love this woman and how thankful I am for her. This year Kimberly stood by me through cancer, we both totally changed careers, and we had a surprise pregnancy followed by a sweet, beautiful little girl – just to name some of the highlights. I think going through all of these things may have really overwhelmed many people, but I cant even begin to explain to you how much I have loved this last year together. Life with Kimberly is more joyous, more exciting, and more fruitful than I could have ever hoped for and I am so thankful to have this woman in my life. Happy one year anniversary, Kimberly Marie Chin. I can’t wait to see what else the Lord has in store for us.”
Kimberly & Patrick, thank you guys for being such an amazing picture of perseverance & faith for us. Harper Rae is one of the absolute luckiest lil babes I know for having you two as parents & I can’t watch God work!!!
